I see this as a variation of Alzheimer's Disease. I call it oil on the brain. Symptoms being close minded to anything other then oil and an obsession with oil. I don't believe people with oil on the brain are fit to serve as lawmakers.

[...] Environmentalists have argued that oil shale and tar sands development would ruin vast expanses of spectacular scenery, recreational lands and wildlife habitat — and could require more water than the arid West has to offer. Look here. [...]

People from all over the world and our great country visit Bryce Canyon National Park every year. Do we really want to show the people who come to Bryce, in awe of its magnificent landscapes, that we have low standards on how we treat the environment and no respect for our self-proclaimed "national parks?" A coal mine expansion is unnecessary. We need to be moving towards cleaner energy. This means no coal!

I become a little concerned when a SUWA posting board comes close to appearing as a rage blog. The use of words such as "idiots" when alluding to any political foe of the Utah wilderness does nothing to advance SUWA's mission and standing and only places us in the company of the Rush Limbaugh's and Bill O'Reilly's of this country ... somewhere I trust we would rather not be. In my experience, no one who becomes a Governor of a State in the US is an idiot. And yes, I am graciously including past Governors of the States of Alaska and Illinois in that generalization. He or she may hold views entirely antithetical to my own on almost every important issue, but I believe it is detrimental to our efficacy and understanding of the important tasks at hand if we hold (and express) such misconceptions. I realize it sounds almost Victorian, but there is much to be gained in practicing respect, even more so when dealing with adversaries.
