On Monday, Arizona’s conservative Governor Jan Brewer surprised observers by vetoing legislation that demanded that the federal government surrender control of millions of acres of public land in the Grand Canyon state. But in Utah, Governor Herbert recently signed a similar bill demanding that the federal government give up control of Utah’s public lands — and the state has earmarked $3 million for its defense.
